List Rental Property in Four Steps

From a vacant unit to comparable, pre-screened inquiries in one sitting.

No syndication setup, no separate account on every portal, and no fee that grows for every week the unit stays empty.

  • The address and unit number
  • Rent, deposit and lease term
  • The date it is genuinely available
  • Photos, if you have them yet

Nothing else is required to publish. The grader tells you what is still missing.

  1. 01

    Add the unit

You fill in the facts a renter is going to ask for anyway, in the order they ask for them.

Address and unit, bedrooms and bathrooms, monthly rent, security deposit, lease term, the date it is actually available, square footage, which utilities are included, parking, the pet policy, laundry and how to apply. RentPlace treats these as required rather than optional, because a listing that leaves them out is the listing that generates forty messages and three real applicants.

    Why the fields are fixed

    • Every listing on RentPlace answers the same questions
    • Renters filter on facts, not on adjectives
    • Your own listings stay comparable to each other
  2. 02

    RentPlace grades and rewrites it

The Listing Grader scores the listing out of 100, names every must-have fact you left out, and rewrites the headline and description.

The rewrite uses the words renters actually type into a search box rather than the words landlords use in conversation. Where a fact is genuinely missing it is written as a bracketed placeholder for you to fill in, never invented. You can run the grader on this site before you have an account, which is the point of the free tool: you should be able to see the output before you pay for anything.

    What the grader returns

    • A score out of 100 with a one-line verdict
    • A present or missing check on 11 must-have facts
    • A rewritten headline and description
    • The four questions your listing keeps provoking
  3. 03

    Set your screening questions

You choose which questions every applicant on this listing has to answer before their message can be sent.

Desired move-in date, income band, number of occupants, pets, preferred lease length, and anything else you add. Save the set as a template and apply it to the rest of the portfolio. Because the same questionnaire goes to every applicant on a listing, the answers are directly comparable, which is also how consistent, fair-housing-minded practice is supposed to work. RentPlace decides nothing for you and does not run a consumer report.

    Applied consistently

    • The same questions for every applicant on a listing
    • Templates reusable across the portfolio
    • Answers stored as structured fields, not free text
  4. 04

    Take inquiries in one inbox

Every inquiry arrives with the answers attached, so you shortlist before you schedule a single showing.

The inbox groups inquiries by unit and lets you compare applicants side by side on the fields you asked for. The vacancy board sits behind it, showing every unit with days vacant and inquiry count, so you can see which listing is not pulling and fix it. Nothing here charges you more because the unit took another week to fill.

    After the inquiry

    • Compare applicants field by field
    • Reply from the same screen
    • Mark the unit leased and stop the vacancy clock

List an apartment for rent once, watch it from one screen

Whether you list one apartment for rent or forty doors, the board says the same four things: the unit, the rent, how long it has been empty, and how many people have asked about it.

Days vacant is the emphasised column because it is the only number on the screen that is actively costing you money. See the full feature list on the rental listing website features page, or read how teams use it in rental property management software for teams.
